College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Wednesday (June 30, 2004) CAL. ST. FULLERTON NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL TUCSON, Ariz. — Cal. St. Fullerton, fresh from winning the College World Series, finished No. 1 in the final Collegiate Baseball newspaper NCAA Division I baseball poll. The Titans (47-22) won 17 of their final 19 games to close out the season and captured its fourth national championship. What made the achievement even greater is that Cal. St. Fullerton started the season with a 15-16 record. But the Titans rebounded with a 32-6 record over its final 38 games. Even more revealing is that Cal. St. Fullerton won 15 of its final 16 games against top 25 ranked opponents, and its pitching staff allowed runs in just 15 of their final 99 innings. The Titans won their bracket championship at the College World Series and then won two straight over Texas in the Championship Series. Miami, Fla., ranked No. 1 in the previous poll as the final eight teams went into the College World Series, finished with a 1-2 record at the College World Series and dropped to fifth in the final poll. The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season. (Top 30 Agate Follows)
