College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Monday (June 14, 2004) MIAMI NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL TUCSON, Ariz. — Miami (Fla.) is No. 1 for the third straight week in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I baseball poll. The Hurricanes (49-11) breezed through their super regional with two straight wins and have now won 12 straight games overall. Miami has stolen 132 bases in 177 attempts but has limited its opposition to only 29 in 45 attempts. The Hurricanes feature five players with 16 or more stolen bases. On offense, the Hurricanes have belted 78 homers in 60 games and are averaging 8.7 runs per game while the pitching staff has a 3.59 ERA. Poll Notes: All eight teams which qualified for the College World Series are ranked in the top eight this week. Every team rolled through their super regional with 2-0 records except Arizona which won two of three at Long Beach St…Outside of Miami's 12-game winning streak, South Carolina enters the College World Series with 10 consecutive wins…The Southeastern Conference is represented by four teams at the CWS in Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana St. and South Carolina. The only other time in history this took place was during the 1997 College World Series when the SEC was represented by LSU, Alabama, Auburn and Mississippi St. The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll.
