STANFORD NO. 1 IN
COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER
(www.baseballnews.com) POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — Stanford (23-4) is No. 1 in
the latest Collegiate Baseball newspaper NCAA Division I baseball poll
for the second straight week.
The Cardinal won two of three at UCLA over the
past weekend and has now won eight of their last nine games. Dating back to last
season, Stanford has won 26 of its last 29 road games.
Poll Notes:
There was no movement in the top three teams from
a week ago as Stanford remained first followed by Louisiana St. and Texas. Notre
Dame, with a 9-game winning streak, moved to fourth while Rice, riding an 8-game
winning streak, moved up one spot to sixth.
Four other red-hot teams include College of
Charleston (14 straight wins), Clemson (8 wins in row), Oklahoma (7 consecutive
victories) and Nebraska (5-0 last week). Another note concerning Nebraska is
that its pitching staff set a Big 12 Conference record with four straight
shutouts last week, marking the first time in school history this has been
accomplished in one season. The staff went 43 1/3 innings without allowing a run
before the streak was snapped. Nebraska threw two shutouts against Wisc.-Milwaukee
and two against Kansas St. On the week, NU pitchers tossed a pair of
one-hitters, a 3-hitter and a 5-hitter.
Four teams fell out of the poll this week in
Florida Atlantic (1-2), N.C. Greensboro (1-2), Birmingham Southern (1-3) and
Vanderbilt (3-2).
The Collegiate
Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth
took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
