COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER
(www.baseballnews.com) POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Texas is No.
1 in the latest Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll of NCAA Division I
baseball.
The Longhorns (35-4) have won eight straight
games and sit at 9-2 in the Big 12 Conference. In 39 games, Texas has stolen 84
bases in 113 attempts while limiting its opposition to only 28 in 39 attempts.
The pitching staff has been superb all season long with a 2.25 ERA and nine
shutouts. The staff has a better than 2:1 strikeout to walk ratio (332

Stanford, ranked No. 1 the past two weeks,
slipped to second after winning two of three over the past weekend at Oregon St.
Poll Notes:
Louisiana St. took the biggest tumble in this
week's poll after losing four straight home games (one to Tulane and three
against Arkansas). The Tigers dropped from second to 12th. Arkansas' 3-game
sweep at LSU was the first conference 3-game sweep at Alex Box Stadium in 16
years. The Razorbacks are now 8-4 in Southeastern Conference action and 23-11
overall as Arkansas jumped to 18th in this week's poll. Several other teams have
been red-hot lately. Rice has won 11 straight games, Virginia 9 in a row and
Tennessee eight consecutive.
Three teams fell out of the poll this week in
Arizona St., Clemson and Georgia. The Sun Devils lost two of three at home to
Oral Roberts and have now lost four consecutive series. Clemson lost three
straight at Virginia. Georgia was swept by Tennessee over three contests.
The Collegiate
Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth
took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
