LSU NO. 1 IN
COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER

TUCSON, Ariz. — Louisiana State University is
ranked No. 1 for the fourth straight week in Collegiate Baseball
newspaper's NCAA Division I baseball poll.
The Tigers (15-2) have won 13 of their last 14
games. During the past week, LSU beat Louisiana-Monroe 6-1 and Southeastern
Louisiana twice, 7-1 and 5-1. LSU's 15-2 record is the Tigers' best through 17
games since the 1997 club was 17-0 en route to a 19-0 start. The Tigers have
held its opposition to four runs or less in 15 of their 17 contests as LSU
sports a 1.95 team ERA.
Poll Notes:
Fourth-ranked South Carolina keeps on rolling
with a perfect 17-0 record but did not move up in the poll since No. 2 Stanford
was idle last week and No. 3 Texas has won 12 in a row. Texas' 23-2 start is the
school's best since 1982 when the Longhorns began the year with 33 straight
wins. Other noted win streaks include Florida (14 in a row), Tennessee (12
straight), Oral Roberts (10 consecutive) and Lamar (9 in a row).
Notre Dame's 12-1 record represents the best
start in 94 years for the Irish. Virginia swept a 3-game series at Georgia Tech.
over the past weekend and now has a 17-2 overall record. The Cavaliers jumped
from 30th to 20th in this week's poll. It marked the first time that Virginia
swept Georgia Tech in a 3-game ACC series.
The Collegiate
Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth
took place during the 1957 college baseball season.

RHP Cliff Russum, Southern
Mississippi: Russum pitched the
sixth no-hitter in school history during a 12-0 win over Eastern Illinois. He
struck out a career-high 15 batters and was only three walks from a perfect
game. It was the school's first 9-inning no-hitter since Ray Guy threw one in
1972. |

RHP Jered Weaver, Long Beach
St.: For the fourth time this
season, Weaver has been named a National Player of The Week as he struck out
15 batters and allowed only one hit with one walk in eight innings during a
3-0 win over UCLA. On the season, he has a 6-0 record with 70 strikeouts and
only 5 walks. |

P Matt Campbell, South
Carolina: Campbell hurled 13
scoreless innings during the past week and struck out 22 batters with no
walks. He fanned 11 against Yale and 11 more against Delaware State. |

P Tim Lincecum, Washington:
Lincecum struck out 15 batters in
six innings as the Huskies beat Loyola Marymount, 10-1. He held the Lions
hitless through the first five innings. |

1B/3B/RHP Connor Robertson,
Birmingham Southern: Robertson hit 4
home runs with 13 RBIs, 2 doubles, a triple and stole three bases over four
games. He also recorded a win as a pitcher and a save with no runs allowed as
he struck out three batters in 2 1/3 innings. |
