RICE NO. 1 IN FINAL COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. Rice University (58-12) has been
ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's final NCAA Division I baseball poll
of the season.
The Owls, fresh from winning the College World Series in
Omaha for the school's first national championship in any sport, finished the season
ranked No. 1 in the final three Collegiate Baseball polls. Rice beat Stanford two
of three games in the championship round at the College World Series which included a 14-2
title game victory over the Cardinal.
The Owls concluded the year with wins in seven of their
last eight games.
The Collegiate Baseball
Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during
the 1957 college baseball season.
