FLORIDA ST. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Florida St. (51-12) unseated Clemson as the No. 1 team in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's NCAA Division I baseball poll after sweeping the previously top-ranked team in the nation on their home turf.

The Tigers (44-12), which had been ranked No. 1 for eight straight weeks, fell to sixth this week. Clemson had not been swept by any team this season until Florida St. did it.

In an interesting turn of events in the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Seminoles were fourth entering this past weekend's showdown with Clemson but were still ranked seventh in the nation. After a wild weekend in the ACC, Florida St. finished as the regular-season champion of the ACC and jumped six spots to No. 1

The Seminoles have won 17 straight games.

The top 10 had another major shakeup as Alabama, previously ranked second and leading the Southeastern Conference, dropped three straight games at Louisiana St. The Crimson Tide fell to seventh this week.

POLL NOTES: Several other teams are on a roll. Texas Tech. has won 15 in a row, Richmond 10 straight, Houston eight consecutive and Notre Dame has won 32 of its last 35 games. Mississippi, ranked 16th last week, lost six straight games and fell out of the poll. Other teams which dropped out include Texas A&M (0-3), Oklahoma St. (3-2), and Southern Mississippi (0-3).

The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
