College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Monday (April 1, 2002) CLEMSON NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL TUCSON, Ariz. — For the second straight week, Clemson (23-1) has been ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's NCAA Division I baseball poll. The Tigers, which have only lost once in 24 games to South Alabama, 6-4, have been nothing short of sensational. Clemson began the season with 13 straight wins before losing its first game. Currently, the Tigers are working on a 10-game winning streak. Clemson is hitting .355 as a team with 47 homers in 24 games and have swiped 40 bases while limiting opponents to just 18. The pitching staff has a 3.40 ERA with 191 strikeouts and only 72 walks. POLL NOTES: Several other teams are also on a roll. Florida Atlantic has the longest winning streak in the nation with 19 consecutive wins. It is the longest winning streak for Florida Atlantic since tying the NCAA record in 1999 with 34 straight wins. Richmond (24-2) has won nine straight while Mississippi has strung together a 6-game winning streak. Oklahoma State hs won five in a row.
