FLORIDA ST. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. For the second straight week,
Florida State has been ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's NCAA
Division I baseball poll.
The Seminoles, which have won 18 of their last 20
contests, are averaging 8.1 runs per game with a superb team on-base percentage of .419.
The pitching staff has posted 220 strikeouts and only 67 walks in 29 games.
POLL NOTES: Several other teams are
also on a roll. Clemson has won 14 of its first 15 games while Alabama has won eight
straight, Florida seven in a row and Rice six consecutive. Oklahoma (15-5 overall), which
beat Arizona St. two of three over the past weekend, has won seven of its last eight and
leads the Big 12 Conference with a 3-0 record. Three teams fell out of the poll this week.
Mississippi St. was 1-4 last week while Miami (Fla.) was 1-3 and Tulane lost two of three
at home against N.C.-Charlotte.
The Collegiate Baseball
Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during
the 1957 college baseball season.

NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
 | SS Khalil Greene, Clemson: Greene
had a monster week as he belted 6 home runs over five games as he went 16-for-22 at the
plate. He also knocked in 17 runs and swiped three of four bases. Greene tied a school
record by homering in five straight games. Currently, he is on a 12-game hitting streak.

 | LHP Aaron Marsden, Nebraska: Marsden
made his first NCAA Division I start a memorable one, firing an 8-inning, complete-game
1-hitter against highly regarded Texas A&M in a 10-0 victory. He struck out nine as he
only allowed one hit in the second inning on a single by Rusty Meyer before retiring 20 of
the next 21 hitters he faced.

 | RHP Colby Paxton, Auburn: Paxton
threw a nine inning, one-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over Kentucky. The Wildcats' lone hit
came on a bunt single by Seth Morris with one out in the fifth inning. His six strikeouts
established a career best.

 | RHP Davy Martin, Virginia Commonwealth: Martin
fired a 1-hit shutout to lead the Rams past in-state rival Virginia Tech., 8-0. He held
the Hokies hitless until a 2-out single in the top of the eighth inning. Martin racked up
a season-high nine strikeouts as he recorded his first career shutout. He walked three and
faced just three batters over the minimum. |
