College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Monday (Feb. 4, 2002) STANFORD NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL TUCSON, Ariz. Stanford University has been ranked No. 1 in the first regular-season NCAA Division I baseball poll of the 2002 season by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. The Cardinal (2-1) kicked off the season by beating 16th ranked Cal. St. Fullerton two of three. Stanford won the first two games of the series, 7-4 and 17-1 before dropping the finale, 6-3. All three games were played in Stanford, Calif. With Fullerton's win in the third game of the series, it snapped a 6-game losing streak to the Cardinal dating back to the first meeting between the teams during the 2001 season. POLL NOTES: Top-ranked Stanford will play a 3-game series against No. 2 Florida St. this weekend in Tallahassee, Fla. Of the top 30 ranked teams this week, 22 ball clubs have not started their season. The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll.
