College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Monday (May 21, 2001) MIAMI, FLA. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL TUCSON, Ariz. For the first time this season, Miami, Fla. (44-12) has been ranked No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball newspaper NCAA Division I baseball poll. The Hurricanes, which have won a season-high eight consecutive games to close the regular season, replaced Southern California which slipped one spot to second after losing once at Oregon St. The Trojans have still won 10 of their last 11 games and won the Pac-10 Conference title. Only one point separates Miami and Southern California. POLL NOTES: Several other teams have been red hot. Oral Roberts has won 13 straight. Delaware continues to roll with 11 wins in its last 12 games. Tulane, which won the Conference USA tournament, has posted a 50-10 record this season. The 50 wins is the most ever recorded by a Tulane baseball team. The previous record was 49 set in 1986. Central Florida, winners of the Trans America Athletic Conference tournament, has won 17 of its last 19 games. Third ranked Nebraska, which won its first regular season conference title in 51 years, became the first team in Big 12 history to win both the regular season and tournament crowns in the same season. Wake Forest captured the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament title and Mississippi State won the Southeastern Conference tournament crown. The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season. (Top 30 Agate Follows)
