College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Monday (May 29, 2000) GEORGIA TECH. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL TUCSON, Ariz. Georgia Tech. (50-14) has been ranked No. 1 in the latest Collegiate Baseball newspaper NCAA Division I baseball poll. It marks the second consecutive poll the Yellow Jackets have been ranked No. 1. Georgia Tech has won 12 of its last 13 games, including three straight to capture its regional over the past weekend. South Carolina (55-8) moved up one spot to second after winning three straight at its regional. Stanford, third this week, slipped one spot after winning its regional with a 3-1 record. POLL NOTES: Three teams which have been red-hot outside of Georgia Tech. include Southern California (13 consecutive wins), Louisiana St. (7 straight victories) and Miami, Fla. (6 wins in a row). Two upsets took place during regional competition this past weekend. Texas knocked off highly ranked Arizona State (fourth last week) in the final game of the regional. Baylor, ranked fifth in last week's poll, went out 0-2 in its regional. Both Arizona State and Baylor fell out of the top 10 as a result. The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season. (Top 30 Agate Follows)
