College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Monday (April 10, 2000) FLORIDA ST. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL TUCSON, Ariz. Florida St. (35-5) has been ranked No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I baseball poll for the seventh time in the last nine weeks. Over the past weekend, the Seminoles beat rival Miami (Fla.) three straight in Tallahassee, Fla. to record their first 3-game sweep of the Hurricanes since 1993 by scores of 14-13 (17 innings), 12-2, and 5-4. The Seminoles are hitting .343 as a team and are averaging 9.8 runs per game. As far as pitching, FSU has a microscopic 2.93 ERA and has struck out 385 batters with 145 walks. POLL NOTES: Three teams fell out of the Collegiate Baseball poll this week in Georgia (2-3), Central Florida (1-3) and Kentucky (1-2). Teams which are back in the poll this week include Loyola Marymount, San Jose St., and Florida. Last week Loyola Marymount pounded UCLA 23-12 and then took two of three from Pepperdine. San Jose St., with a sweep of Hawaii, is 11-4 in the Western Athletic Conference and in first place. Florida has been on a roll lately. The Gators have not lost a game in 13 of their last 14 games which includes a tie. Other red-hot teams in the poll this week include South Carolina (7 wins in a row, including a 3-game sweep of Mississippi St. over the past weekend), Louisiana St. (6 straight victories), Georgia Tech. (17 wins in last 19 contests), Wake Forest (9 straight wins, including three straight over North Carolina over the past weekend), and Florida Atlantic (9 consecutive victories). The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season. (Top 30 Agate Follows)
