FLORIDA ST. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. Florida St. has been ranked No. 1
for the fourth consecutive week in the Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I baseball
poll. The Seminoles have won 12 straight. Over the past weekend, Florida St. swept a
3-game series against Pittsburgh, 6-1, 12-0 and 14-4. North Carolina, still unbeaten at
16-0, moved to second this week while Stanford (14-5) slipped to third.
POLL NOTES: Two teams fell out of the poll this week
in UCLA (7-7) and Oklahoma St. (9-7). The Bruins have lost eight of their last nine games.
At one point early in the season, UCLA was ranked fourth in the nation. Oklahoma St. was
2-2 last week. Lengthy winning streaks include North Carolina (16), South Carolina (15),
Kentucky (13) and Louisiana-Lafayette (10). South Carolina (15-0) is off to its best start
in school history and two wins shy of the school record for consecutive wins of 17 set in
1975 when the Gamecocks finished second in the College World Series with a 51-6-1 overall
record. North Carolina has now won 46 consecutive games against non-conference opponents
in Chapel Hill, a streak that dates back to the Seton Hall series in 1998.
The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll
is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball
season.
