College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Monday (March 13, 2000) FLORIDA ST. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL TUCSON, Ariz. Florida St. has been ranked No. 1 for the fifth consecutive week in the Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I baseball poll. The Seminoles (23-2 and 3-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference) have won 17 straight. Over the past weekend, Florida St. swept a 3-game series against Duke, 17-0, 8-3 and 9-6. North Carolina, still unbeaten at 20-0, is second. The Tar Heels have won a school-record 20 straight games. Their 20-0 start is the best in school history. POLL NOTES: Three teams fell out of the poll this week in Tennessee, Wake Forest and Florida International. Tennessee was 2-2 last week while Wake Forest was 2-3. Florida International was swept in a 3-game series over the past weekend by New Orleans. South Carolina is still unbeaten with a 19-0 record. Over the past weekend, the Gamecocks swept highly regarded Auburn three straight at Auburn. The 19 game winning streak is the longest in school history. The previous mark was 17 set by the 1975 team that finished 51-6-1 and finished second at the College World Series. Louisiana-Lafayette (18-1) has won 13 straight. Georgia makes its first entry in the poll this year with a 12-4 overall record. The Bulldogs beat LSU two of three in Baton Rouge over the weekend. Georgia became the first SEC East team to win a league series at LSU since the league went back to divisions in 1992. The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll.
