"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S"
NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
 | P Beau Hale, Texas: Hale
recorded the 18th no-hitter in University of Texas history when he blanked Sam Houston
St., 10-0 in a 9-inning contest. Not one ball was hit out of the infield (13 ground outs,
13 strikeouts and 1 pop-up to shortstop). Hale flirted with a perfect game as he only
walked one batter and his defense committed only one error. He retired the side in order
in eight of nine innings.
|
 | P David Talamantez, Lamar: Making
his collegiate debut as a freshman, Talamantez threw the 15th no-hitter in Lamar history
in a 4-0 win over Mississippi Valley St. He struck out nine and didn't walk a batter in
the 7-inning contest. The first hitter of the game reached on an error by Talamantez when
he dropped a popped up bunt. Otherwise he would have pitched a perfect game. He retired 21
straight batters the rest of the game. This was Lamar's first no-hitter since the 1993
season.
|
 | OF Gabe Gross, Auburn: Gross was a one man RBI
machine last week as he knocked in 19 runners in five games. He belted three homers and
four doubles as he went 14-for-24 at the plate. His most impressive game was against
Samford when he belted back-to-back home runs and compiled 8 RBIs. |
