College Baseball Poll - Collegiate Baseball Newspaper

PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release: Monday (June 7, 1999)

MIAMI (FLA.) NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Miami, Fla. has been ranked No. 1 in the latest Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll. It marks the seventh time this season the Hurricanes (46-13) have been on top of the poll. Miami rolled through its Super Regional showdown against Wake Forest with two decisive wins, 10-2 and 8-1 to quality for the College World Series for the sixth consecutive time under Head Coach Jim Morris. It will be the 18th trip overall to Omaha for the Hurricanes.

Poll Notes: The top seven teams from last week's poll remain the same as they all won their respective Super Regionals over the past weekend. The only upset, although minor, was when Oklahoma St. took two of three against Baylor. During the regular season, Baylor finished second in the Big 12 Conference with a 20-7 record while OSU finished fourth with an 18-9 mark.

Alabama enters the College World Series with 15 consecutive wins, the longest in the nation. Over the past two weekends during the regionals and Super Regionals, No. 2 Rice set an NCAA record when it was forced to win six elimination contests (four one week ago and two this past weekend). Four teams went through their respective regional and Super Regional weekends with perfect records, including Stanford, Miami, Alabama and Florida St. Each school won five consecutive contests.

The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
