PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release: Monday (May 31, 1999)

MIAMI (FLA.) NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Miami, Fla. has been ranked No. 1 in the latest Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll. It marks the sixth time this season the Hurricanes (44-13) have been on top of the poll

Miami rolled through its 4-team regional with a perfect 3-0 record in defeating Bethune-Cookman, 15-9, Florida International, 6-4 and Florida Atlantic, 3-2.

Poll Notes: The top six teams from last week's poll remain the same as they all won their respective regionals over the past weekend. Two big upsets took place in regional competition. Last week's No. 7 ball club (Wichita St.) and No. 8 team (Arkansas) lost their respective regionals despite playing at home. Oklahoma St. knocked off Wichita St. twice on the final day to oust the Shockers while Clemson won the regional Arkansas was hosting.

The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
