FLORIDA ST. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. Florida St. University has been
ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's latest NCAA Division I baseball
poll. The Seminoles swept Wake Forest in a 3-game series over the past weekend and have
won 19 straight in rolling to a 33-3 overall record (12-0 Atlantic Coast Conference mark).
Florida St. has been ranked No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball poll seven of the last
eight weeks.
Florida St. is averaging 9.2 runs per game with a .336
batting average and team ERA of 2.62. FSU is 14-3 against top 25 teams this season. The
Seminoles' 33-3 start is their best record through 36 games in Head Coach Mike Martin's
tenure (since 1980).
POLL NOTES: Several other teams have been
red-hot. The longest winning streak of top 30 teams is Florida Atlantic with 30 straight,
a school and state of Florida record. The last time FAU lost was a 3-1 setback at Miami,
Fla. on Feb. 17. It was FAU's only game this season against a ranked opponent. The NCAA
Div. I record for consecutive wins is 34 set by Texas in 1977. Several other hot teams
include Baylor (11 straight wins), Virginia Commonwealth (11 wins in last 12 contests),
Cal. St. Fullerton (17 wins in last 18 tilts), Texas Tech (winners of 22 of its last 26)
and Rice (12 wins in last 14 games).

season.

 | RHP Steve Magill, Butler: Magill
hurled the first no-hitter since 1980 for Butler in a 2-1 win over Wright State. He struck
out eight and walked three in the contest.

 | 1B Jude Voltz, Mississippi: In
a 3-game series against Vanderbilt, Voltz cracked 5 homers as he went 7-for-12 at the
plate. He tied a school record with three homers in the first game of the series.

 | 1B Matt Wood, Ball State: Wood
belted 5 home runs in the span of 9 at-bats. For the week, he was 9-for-15 with 9 runs
scored and 16 RBIs, including a career-high 7 RBI in a game against Valparaiso.

 | 1B Ben Broussard, McNeese State: Broussard
belted 5 home runs in five games last week as he went 11-for-21 at the plate with 10 RBIs.
He tied a school record as he hit 3 home runs against Baylor.

 | OF Bill Scott, UCLA: Scott did
what no other Bruin has done in 80 years of UCLA baseball when he cracked four home runs
in one game against Washington and knocked in 11 RBI as the Bruins lost to Washington,
16-15. Scott's homers came in the third, sixth, eighth and ninth innings against four
different pitchers.
