FLORIDA ST. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. Florida State has been ranked No. 1
in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's latest NCAA Division I baseball poll. The
Seminoles (9-0) pounded Troy State in their only games of the week, 17-3, 21-1 and 10-2.
FSU is hitting .357 as a team and has outscored opponents 106-24. The team ERA is 2.33
with a strikeout to walk ratio of better than 3:1 (94 strikeouts and 30 walks). Last
week's No. 1 team, Wichita State (3-1) slipped to second after losing one of four games
against Hawaii-Hilo.
POLL NOTES: Several teams have been red-hot. Texas
has bolted to No. 5 in the nation with a 7-2 overall record after sweeping defending
national champion Southern California three straight two weekends ago and then taking two
of three at perennial powerhouse Louisiana State over the past weekend. The Longhorns
jumped from 17th to fifth in this week's poll. Arizona has been another hot team. The
Wildcats (13-1) are ranked 15th in the nation. Over the past weekend, Arizona took two of
three from Texas A&M. Two other teams which have rang up impressive records include
Florida International (8-0) and Pepperdine (9-0). Oral Roberts (4-1) has stolen 38 bases
in five games (average 7.6 per game).

poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957
college baseball season.

NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
 | LHP Foye Minton, East Carolina: Minton
hurled the first no-hitter since 1989 when he tossed a 9-inning no-no against North
Carolina St. in the Winn-Dixie Shotout. Minton faced just one batter over the minimum
while fanning seven and walking one. He recorded 15 ground outs in the 8-0 victory.

 | RF Shelley Duncan, Arizona: Duncan
hit five home runs in five games last week. The Wildcat, who had already become the only
freshman in Wildcat history to homer twice in a single game earlier this season, did so
two more times during the past week. Duncan was 9-for-21 on the week with 8 hits for extra
bases.

 | OF/DH Tim Angiolini, South
Carolina: Angiolini tied a school record as he collected nine consecutive hits over
four games. The old record was set by Skeets Thomas in two games in 1989.

 | RHP Jon Brandt, UCLA: Brandt
set a UCLA school record with 17 strikeouts against McNeese St. In seven innings, he
recorded 21 outs with 17 being via the strikeout. He allowed three runs on five hits. The
three runs he allowed came on a 3-run homer. UCLA lost the game, 8-5 as Brandt was saddled
with the loss.

 | C Eric Munson, Southern California: Munson hit
four home runs in four games last week as he hit .615 (8-for-13). He registered 11 RBI and
scored six runs. He had two hits in each game. |
