"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S"
NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
 | OF Matt Diaz, Florida St.: Diaz put on a remarkable hitting display at the Atlantic II Regional
where he was named Most Valuable Player. He belted 7 homers, 5 doubles and knocked in 19
runs. In a game against Oklahoma, he belted four homers to tie an NCAA regional record.
|
 | DH Pat Burrell, Miami, Fla.: Burrell put on a show at the Atlantic I Regional with 5 homers and 9
RBI as he went 8-for-19 at the plate. What makes his performance even more amazing is that
he had not played for 28 straight games heading into the regional due to an injury to his
lower back. In Burrell's first plate appearance in the regional, he hit a towering home
run. He added another circuit clout in the same game and cracked three more in the
tournament as he was named MVP.
|
 | OF Terrmel Sledge, Long Beach St.:
Sledge was a 1-man wrecking crew in the West Regional in being named MVP. He was
11-for-22 at the plate with 4 homers and 11 RBI. In the championship game against Alabama,
he cracked a key grand slam which staked the 49ers to an early 5-0 lead. Long Beach St.
held on to win, 5-3. |
