LOUISIANA ST. NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — Louisiana St. (51-16) has been ranked No. 1 for the second straight week in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's NCAA Division I baseball poll.

The Tigers completed a 2-game sweep of Rice at their Super Regional to advance to the College World Series for the 15th time. LSU has won 10 straight games and improved to 117-44 all-time in NCAA tournament games which is the highest winning percentage (.727) in history.

LSU is making back-to-back trips to the College World Series for the first time since 2004.

Poll Notes: Cal. St. Fullerton has won nine straight and will be making its fourth trip to the College World Series in the last six years. North Carolina will making its fourth consecutive trip to the CWS. Six of the eight teams that qualified for the College World Series swept their Super Regionals, including LSU, Arizona St., Cal. St. Fullerton, North Carolina, Arkansas and Southern Mississippi. Two teams from the Southeastern Conference (LSU, Arkansas) and two from the Atlantic Coast Conference (North Carolina, Virginia) made it to the CWS. The duo of ACC teams will be trying to break a 53-year baseball national title drought (1956-2008). Wake Forest was the first and only ACC team to win it all in 1955. Miami has won four national titles, but each time it was when the Hurricanes were an independent and not affiliated with any conference. Nine times, ACC teams have finished second at the CWS.

The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
