"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S" NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
RHP Brandon Koenigstein, Creighton: Koenigstein needed just 73 pitches to throw the first complete game no-hitter in school history to lift the Bluejays to an 11-0 win over Wichita St. during the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The game was shortened to seven innings due to the league's 10-run rule. He struck out a career-high seven and faced the minimum 21 batters. He allowed just one runner, hitting Tyler Grimes to open the fourth frame. Grimes was retired on a double play. Koenigstein did not go to a 3-ball count all evening. The no-hitter was the second on record in Creighton history, joining the combined no-no by future Major Leaguer Dennis Rasmussen (5 1/3 innings) and Joe Franco (3 2/3 innings) against Kansas St. in 1980. Wichita St. had not been no-hit since 1984.
2B Adam Buschini, Cal Poly: Buschini hit home runs in four consecutive games last week against Santa Clara and U.C. Riverside. He also extended his hitting streak to 15 games. Buschini, who missed the entire 2008 campaign following Tommy John surgery, now has 23 multiple-hit games and a team-leading 18 multiple RBI contests this season.
