GEORGIA NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER POLL
TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Georgia (12-0) has been ranked No. 1 for the first time this season in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's NCAA Division I baseball poll.
The Bulldogs' 12-0 start is the best in school history, surpassing the 9-0 start by the 1911 team. Georgia is hitting .364 as a team with 20 homers, 36 doubles and 18 stolen bases over 12 games. The pitching staff has a 2.42 ERA with 115 strikeouts and only 32 walks.
Louisiana St., ranked No. 1 the previous three polls, slipped to third after losing two of three games at home to Illinois.
POLL NOTES: Several other teams have been red-hot. Virginia entered the poll for the first time this season with a perfect 12-0 record. Three other teams also made their entrance into the poll with U.C. Santa Barbara (9-2), Illinois (7-2), and San Jose St. (9-0). Coastal Carolina has won nine straight while Cal. St. Fullerton has won eight in a row. Teams that fell out of the poll include Florida St. (1-4 last week), Clemson (2-3), Mississippi St. (1-3) and San Diego (1-3). When Florida St. dropped two of three at home to Boston College last weekend, it marked the first time in school history that the Seminoles have dropped an ACC series opener, a span covering 18 seasons.
The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.

"LOUISVILLE SLUGGER'S" NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OF Daniel Hill, Murray St.: Hill belted 5 home runs and knocked in 18 runs over six games last week. He also scored 9 runs and had a 1.231 slugging percentage as he went 15-for-26 at the plate. He had at least 2 hits and 2 RBIs in five of the six games.
RHP Stephen Strasburg, San Diego St.: Strasburg struck out 18 University of San Diego batters in a 5-3 Aztec win. The 18 strikeouts were the second most in a game ever by a Mountain West Conference pitcher.
OF Jack Ambrose, Northern Kentucky: Ambrose cracked 5 home runs and 17 RBIs as he went 17-for-25 with a 1.280 slugging percentage last week with 8 runs scored and 4 stolen bases.
3B Chris Dominguez, Louisville: Dominguez belted 4 home runs, including 2 grand slams, and knocked in 15 runs as he went 11-for-22 at the plate and scored 8 runs. The week was highlighted by a 4-for-5 performance as he delivered 3 home runs with 9 RBI and a stolen base with 4 runs scored in a 19-6 win over Milwaukee.
1B Cody Hawn, Tennessee: Hawn hit 5 home runs with 11 RBIs, 7 runs scored and hit .588 (10-for-17) during a 4-game series against Ohio. He also delivered 3 doubles and had a slugging percentage of 1.647.
