CLEMSON NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — For the eighth straight week, Clemson (42-9) has been ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's NCAA Division I baseball poll.

The Tigers won three of five games last week with a loss at Georgia Tech., a win against Wofford, a loss to Elon and two wins against Virginia. The Tigers are tied for the Atlantic Coast Conference lead at 15-5 with Wake Forest. In a head to head meeting two weeks ago, Clemson beat Wake Forest two of three games.

Clemson barely held on to the No. 1 spot by one point over Alabama largely because of its conference strength. Five ACC teams are in the top 10 this week (Clemson, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Florida St. and Georgia Tech.)

POLL NOTES: Several other teams are also on a roll. Florida St. has won 13 straight while North Carolina has won six in a row. Texas Tech has captured 12 consecutive victories while Richmond has won 8 straight. James Madison continues to roll with 23 wins in its last 26 games. Louisville has won 17 of its last 20 while Southern Mississippi has won six of its last seven. Two teams fell out of the poll this week in Kent St. (1-3 since the last poll) and Florida Atlantic (1-3).

The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
