CLEMSON NO. 1 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER (www.baseballnews.com) POLL

TUCSON, Ariz. — For the fifth straight week, Clemson (34-5) has been ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's NCAA Division I baseball poll.

The Tigers posted a 4-1 record last week with three wins over Duke, another over Western Carolina and a loss to South Carolina.

Clemson is hitting .334 as a team with 67 home runs in 39 games. The Tigers are averaging 8.8 runs per game and feature a superb defense with a .973 fielding percentage which ranked fourth in the nation. The pitching staff has a 3.66 ERA with 298 strikeouts and 128 walks.

POLL NOTES: Several other teams are also on a roll. Florida Atlantic saw its 27-game winning streak snapped against Stetson. However, FAU has still won 27 of its last 28 games. Rice, ranked second, has won 23 of its last 27 contests. Cal. St. Fullerton has won 15 of its last 18. South Alabama has won eight straight. And Southern California, which leads the Pac-10 Conference with a 9-3 record, has won 12 of its last 15 contests.

The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1957 college baseball season.
