Start at 30, then, 40, the, 50, then 60. No off speed pitchers. 3 to 4 days a week play long toss. Use your legs and arm. 100, 200, then 300. High arching throws, 60 to 75 % effort. Cool down by reducing distance. Always have a long sleeve shirt in your bag to wear after throwing workout, or game . Wear a jacket when your team is hitting, wear the jacket on the way home in car with ac on. Wear a long sleeve shirt when sleeping in a cool room. My son did this from age 15 thru minor league ball. Even at age 40 he can still hit the mid 80’s. The arm is a muscle, use it. BTW, doesn’t hurt to run,jog 4 poles after pitching or workout, they call it “changing the oil”.

Comment on St. Thomas (MN) Kicked Out Of Conference by mdh https://baseball-news.com/st-thomas-tossed-out-of-league-due-to-excellence/#comment-145333 Thu, 17 Mar 2022 15:19:26 +0000 https://baseball-news.com/?p=17147#comment-145333 I think the idea St Thomas was just too good for the MIAC is a poor narrative. The MIAC is a strong DIII conference, but at the end of the day it is still a DIII conference.

St Thomas is a large university in a major metro area that is about five – eight times larger than the next biggest conference member. I think in the long run St Thomas moving up to Div 1 will be good for all schools. The better analogy would be Alabama being happy to continue playing in the Sun Belt when they are more geared to be in the SEC.

I had the honor of serving with him as Sports Information Director at Point Loma. He was a dedicated, loyal and enthusiastic leader. He touched many lives. I am thankful he touched mine.

Comment on Should Catchers Utilize 1-Knee Down Style? by David Baker https://baseball-news.com/should-catchers-utilize-1-knee-down-style-or-not/#comment-145326 Fri, 24 Dec 2021 19:11:57 +0000 https://baseball-news.com/?p=16795#comment-145326 There is no always and nevers. Try it out, if it works use it if it doesn’t don’t. My personal opinion is to use it when no runners are on and use traditional when runners are on.

Either way the catching position is going to change even more and receiving won’t matter if the automated strike zone is put in place.

Comment on Should Catchers Utilize 1-Knee Down Style? by Gus Gustafson https://baseball-news.com/should-catchers-utilize-1-knee-down-style-or-not/#comment-145325 Fri, 24 Dec 2021 13:08:53 +0000 https://baseball-news.com/?p=16795#comment-145325 I agree with some of this. That being said my son now a senior was raised on the traditional, but as he grew (he’s now 6’3″ big catchers must accommodate umpires who give you a low zone . He only uses this one leg style with no runners on base. I also believe a good catcher with fast reflexes can stop passed balls in any position and ball transfer combine with a throwing velo of 85mph or higher solves the stealing issue.

Comment on Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-Americans by admin https://baseball-news.com/collegiate-baseball-freshmen-all-americans-3/#comment-145316 Thu, 10 Jun 2021 02:47:58 +0000 https://baseball-news.com/?p=16131#comment-145316 In reply to Bobby McKercher.

Justin Campbell was named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball last season. So he is ineligible to be named to the Freshmen All-American team this year. The NCAA allowed baseball players another year of eligibility after the abbreviated season in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This allowed Freshmen from last season to remain Freshmen this season as far as their athletic eligibility. Collegiate Baseball was the only publication to pick a Freshmen All-American team last year as well as a regular All-American team for NCAA Div. I. There were 13 COVID-19 Freshmen who had terrific numbers this season but are not eligible because they have already received Freshmen All-American honors by our publication last season.

Campbell has emerged as the ace of the OSU pitching staff. In 13 appearances (12 starts), he is 7-1 with a 2.08 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 78 innings of work. A right-hander who was named to the All-Big 12 First Team as both a pitcher and utility player, Campbell is second in the Big 12 in ERA and fifth in strikeouts, and he is the 15th pitcher in OSU history to record 100 strikeouts in a season. Campbell has recorded double digits in strikeouts in five of his 12 starts this season, including racking up a career-high 14 punchouts in seven innings in a win at Oral Roberts. On May 8 at Kansas, Campbell became only the third pitcher in the 110-year history of OSU baseball to throw a no-hitter in a nine-inning game. Seriously he’s not on your list?

A Navi eye test showed that Ted Williams had 20/10 vision. What was Barry Bonds’ eyesight?

How refreshing to see a pitcher who realizes he has a team behind him and they are perfectly capable of doing their job.
